Artisan Travel Wear

Coming soon – JOYA8 launches with a unique collection of 8 versatile black and white artisan travel wear pieces made of 100% silk. Each comes with a complimentary black dress in its own little black bag – ready to slip into your suitcase or briefcase.

Place your order within the first 100 days of our launch and 100% of the profits will go to the women weavers in northeastern India who made them.

Every JOYA8 silk piece can be worn in a variety of ways – to make a statement at a cocktail party (over your complimentary black dress), poolside (over your swimsuit), in the office (over black pants or a black dress) or on an aeroplane (as a comfort scarf).

The JOYA8 can be washed and hung up to dry overnight ready to go the next day. It can be a gift for someone else – or for you.

I’ve designed – for myself and for you – something I’ve been missing from my wardrobe and from my carry-on travel essentials. With the JOYA8 collection, a beautiful and versatile solution is just a click away.

About

Joy’s story

As an Italo-Australian designer who spends time between Sydney and New York, my philosophy is simple – to make artisan travel wear that is not just elegant but ethically and sustainably produced.

So it was serendipitous when Anannya Sharma of Yarn Glory and I met accidentally in a restaurant on the Lower East Side (pre-covid). The smile on Anannya’s face when I showed her my designs brought a smile to my face. We knew we were meant to collaborate.

Inspired by classic Italian design and New York smart chic, JOYA8 builds on my love of fashion that makes a statement about who I am and how I want to be seen. It builds on my love of travel and the serendipitous encounters that bring delight to my life.

Anannya’s story

Anannya is a textile designer and the founder of Yarn Glory, which trains women weavers to create handwoven products based on the artisan weaving traditions of northeast India. Anannya is committed to fair wages, fair trade and sustainability.

Yarn Glory’s collaboration with JOYA8 allows us to offer a blend of tradition infused with modern sensibilities. We believe that weavers should not be exploited in that process. Only then will they be encouraged to take on new ideas and new concepts that will lead to the economic wellbeing of the broader weaving community. Skill development leads to higher productivity, enhanced income and sustainable employment for these women weavers and their communities.
